For those of you who I haven't told, I have taken on the challenge of a Fitness Boot Camp. Boot Camp Web Site I started the five-week program on April 7th. Here is my account of the experience. Hope you enjoy!
Hey again all. Session #4 was this morning. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. Auspelmyer is going to call the administration on me if I keep sending out long emails during the workday. ha ha.
Man, it was tough getting up this morning. Have I said before that I'm not cut-out to be a 5:00 a.m. guy?
We started class with a little running in place, which is always an easy way to start the morning. When the class failed to answer the instructor in a loud enough manner, he decided we needed some push-ups. Fun, fun, fun. So we really got things started with some push-ups - about three minutes worth, which isn't too bad.
After the push-ups, we worked on our lower body. That means squats. Squats weren't very fun. We then added to the excitement by working on our vertical jumping along with the squats. Ugh....squat to jump then back to squat. Needless to say, my legs were pretty tired. Then he had us hopping on our toes. On his whistle we went from hopping to kicking our own butts with our feet - then back to hopping. For some reason, I do this pretty well. Of course, I was getting pretty tired by then. My jumps weren't so fabulous. I would make a sarcastic comment about Jerry's Kids here, but that would be unfair to them to drop them to my level.
Next we condensed our lines and did squat jumps across the gym. Four trips across the gym didn't help my fatigue at all. After that, he thought it would be fun for us to "duck walk" across the gym. Basically you squat down and then waddle across the gym. Perhaps I wasn't doing this correctly, but this was one of the easier things we did. I just rolled my feet and waddled my hips. The real pain was going from the duck walk to sprinting back to our departure point. The run probably resembled a waddle. Thankfully we only did this twice.
After a water break, we worked on upper-body. Push ups and more push ups. And in-between the push-ups, abdominal work. Crunches and various sorts of ab work. It wasn't fun. My poor arms were still tired from the warm-up push-ups we did. ha ha. We did this for about 15 minutes and we were done. Now I realize why the baseball kids had doing ab work so much. ugh....
Some random thoughts:
- 5:00 a.m. sucks
- I'm not really as sore as I was last week. I'm definitely more tired, but not as sore. I may have to change this thought tomorrow when the pain sets in.
- Ducks walk the way they do because they have short legs and big feet, not because they want to be in shape.
- How should I judge my workouts? Should I judge it by the amount of sweat I produce or the length of time it takes me to take off my clothes for a shower? Either way, today was a tough one.
Funny teacher story to close on. As the pain was being inflicted upon us, the instructor looked at Fletcher and said that he thought teaching kids all day would drive him crazy. Apparently Fletcher is telling people that he teaches kids all day. Hmmm.....
For the record, I think I cussed at (or about) Fletcher more today than I did on Thursday. Perhaps that's how I should gauge my workouts. The more I cuss, the better workout I'm getting.
Talk to you on Wednesday!
