Flamini hails Arsenal star Wilshere for showing maturity after smoking incident
Mathieu Flamini believes his Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere can handle unwanted media exposure. The French midfielder has backed the young England international for greater success at the club and country level.
Flamini, who returned to Arsenal as a free agent from AC Milan this summer, insists Wilshere will make a greater impact on field than he did before. Wilshere was photographed smoking a cigarette outside a night club in London on Thursday.
The incident sparked a great deal of controversy that embroiled Arsenal and England coach Arsene Wenger and Roy Hodgson. Wilshere scored Arsenal’s equalizer in the 1-1 against West Bromwich Albion to end his three-year long wait for a Premier League goal.
Flamini believes Wilshere is maturing beyond his years in front of the media and on the pitch. Flamini also said that this incident will be a useful learning experience for the midfielder.
“I think Jack was focused,” Flamini said. “Things like that can happen. He is still young but the manager talked to him and it is behind him now. He is a very talented player, has a lot of quality and plays in a great team. He has everything to be successful. He has proven to everyone that he has done well game after game.
“He is doing well, of course, and he will improve game after game. Already, what he is doing is incredible. Everyone at the club is very happy with him. The fans are very happy. I think that everyone should be very happy.”
Flamini, who has been in the spotlight himself after making a successful return to Arsenal ranks, told Wilshere that the 21-year-old better get used to media’s attention. Flamini claims talents such as Wilshere are always in focus of media.
“It is not that easy,” Flamini added. “He plays that kind of game. He is a technical player, so every time, he has one or two players against him. He gets kicked from behind or they try and jump on him.
“It is not that easy when you are talented and trying to make the difference. So it is sometimes difficult to keep calm but I think he did it well in this game.”
