Florida Panther's Goalie Vokoun Has His Ear Sliced By His Own Teammate

Panthers' Keith Ballard Van Goghs His Own Goaltender

Florida Panthers' defenseman Keith Ballard wasn't real happy about allowing Atlanta's Ilya Kovalchuk to skate in on goal and stuff in his own rebound for a goal.  So he did what so many NHL players do after allowing a goal, and smashed his stick over the crossbar.  One problem: Ballard managed to clip his own goalie, Tomas Vokoun, in the ear with his stick, sending Vokoun out of the game on a stretcher with what fortunately turned out to be merely a lacerated ear.

Ballard was, understandably, upset about the incident, and had to be coaxed back out of the locker room by several teammates.  He didn't speak to the press after the game.

Though Vokoun will be OK, one hopes Ballard will be able to move on as well after a very stupid mistake.  The only upside is, it could have been a lot worse, and hopefully plenty of NHLers will now think twice about taking out their frustrations on or around the crease.
