Florida State incoming freshman running back Mario Pender will miss the entire 2012 season after suffering a major groin injury during practice Tuesday, reports Coley Harvey of the Orlando Sentinel.Blog Photo - Florida State Football: Freshman RB Mario Pender to Miss 2012

He is set to have surgery and will be placed as a redshirt.

"It's the new injury of ball," coach Jimbo Fisher said. "Some of the NFL teams are sending six, eight, nine guys a year to it. … Instead of making it worse, we're going to get it fixed and have it ready to go."

Pender, a highly-touted prospect in high school, was listed as the No. 4 tailback on the Seminoles' depth chart behind Chris Thompson, Devonta Freeman and James Wilder Jr., but was expected to see the field and receive touches.
