Floyd Mayweather Jr. will fight Marcos Maidana on May 3
Now, we finally know who he'll be fighting, since he announced he'll be taking on Marcos Maidana.
Maidana's last fight was a dominant victory over previous undefeated fighter Adrien Broner, one of Mayweather's best friends and students in the fight game.
The most impressive thing about the fight was Maidana's incredible punching power. Maidana was throwing huge punches throughout the entire fight, unleashing a seemingly endless barrage of power punches.
The biggest question about this fight, however, will be if Maidana can even come close to that level of performance against Mayweather.
Broner was willing to take some big shot early in the fight, and was hoping that Maidana would eventually tire out. Unfortunately for Broner, that never happened, and Maidana kept punishing him from start to finish.
Mayweather will be an entirely different fighter than Broner, and the challenge for Maidana will be merely trying to land a few big punches.
Mayweather's quickness is legendary and unparalleled in boxing today. Maidana will have to tone it down a bit and throw some quicker, less powerful punches if he hopes to connect with Mayweather.
This should be an interested fight, but I'm guessing that Mayweather will once again dodge the majority of his opponents punches, conserve most of his energy for the later rounds, and earn yet another unanimous decision.
