Flyers Fans Pumped With 4-3 Double OT Win [NHL Wrap-Around]

Who’s one step closer to hoisting Lord Stanley?  The Wrap-Around is your daily update for last nights’ NHL Playoff action.

Bruins Remain In Series With Authority.

When an 8-seed is down 3-1, and playing game 5 in the other teams' house, the last thing you expect is a blowout by the 8 seed.  But that's what happened, as the Bruins won 5-1.  Montreal had more shots (32 to 24) but Tim Thomas was strong.  More importantly the 20 year old Carey Price played like a 20 year old.  Montreal scored the first goal, and the game was 1-1 after two.  But Boston scored 4 goals in the 3rd period en route to the win.  (Metropolit, Chara, Sturm, Sobotka)  Andrew Ference had 3 assists.  Montreal still leads the series 3-2 and can clinch in game 6 in Boston on Saturday.

Flyers Win In 4-3 Double OT Thriller

Very even and exciting game.  The Capitals really couldn't afford a loss, but they couldn't get it done.  After the first period, the game was tied at 2-2.  The Flyers scored in the first minute on a Jeff Carter goal, then the Capitals matched with a Nicklas Backstrom powerplay goal.  Alexander Semin would score a powerplay goal halfway through the period, and late in the period Carter would score again to tie it.  Steve Eminger scored for the Capitals in the 2nd, and Daniel Briere tied it back up halfway through the 3rd.  Shots were near even after the first OT.  And then, about halfway through OT number two, Mike Knuble scored the gmae winning goal for the Flyers.  Philadelphia leads the series 3-1, and can end it in game 5 in Washington on Saturday.

Defending Champion Ducks Are A Game Away From Elimination After 3-1 loss.

Dallas came up with another win, despite getting outshot again.  J.S. Giguere, who was so strong last year, struggled in this game.  Joel Lundqvist scored late 1st to give Dallas a 1-0 lead.  No goals would be scored in the 2nd, and then Stu Barnes and Steve Ott would each score a goal for the Stars in the 3rd period.  The Ducks would score with 8 seconds left, but it wouldn't matter.  Marty Turco made 28 of 29 saves.  Dallas leads the series 3-1 now and can ice it away tonight in Anaheim.

Wild Can't Beat Avalanche Despite Giant Shot Discrepancy.

Colorado had 17 shots, and Minnesota had 40.  Logically, Minnesota should win right?  Wrong.  The game was tied after one, both teams had a powerplay goal. (Brunette for the Avs, Bouchard for the Wild)  No goals were scored in the second.  The Avs took the lead on a Wojtek Wolski powerplay goal, and 2 minutes later Paul Stastny gave them a 3-1 lead.  Brian Rolston scored with 3 seconds left, but it didn't matter, as the Avs win 3-2.  Jose Theodore made 38 of 40 saves.  The Avalanche lead the series 3-2 in and can end it at home in game 6.

Sharks Hold On To Win 4-3; Take Series Lead.

Calgary had 36 shots to San Jose's 26, but San Jose won more faceoffs.  The first goal was scored by Jarome Iginla in the 2nd period on a powerplay.  Joe Pavelski tied it up on a powerplay goal for the Sharks.  Then Patrick Marleau gave the Sharks the lead at the end of the 2nd.  Jonathan Cheechoo would score back to back in the 3rd period to give them a 4-1 lead.  Calgary would try to come back, Langkow scored halfway through and Moss scored with 1:17 left.  However, Calgary could not make the comeback complete.  Sharks lead the series 3-2 now and can end it in game 6 in Calgary on Sunday.
