Flyers and Capitals line fight

The Flyers and Caps have a line fight because Ray Emery is a crazy person

Blog Photo - Flyers and Capitals line fightDown 7-0 in the third period to the Capitals, it was almost a given that the Flyers would start something. It's the Flyers, and that's what they do. It started with Wayne Simmonds going after Caps rookie Tom Wilson. Things really got strange though with Flyers goalie sprinted down the ice wanting a piece of counterpart Braden Holtby. Holtby clearly wanted nothing to do with a fight, but Emery didn't care and starting whaling on him. Worse for Washington, one of the refs prevented them from coming to their goalie's aid. Not surprisingly, this got everyone else is involved. Video is below.

One thing I thought was part of "the code" of NHL fighting is that both combatants have to want to engage. Holtby clearly didn't, so Emery was really out of line here, and could face suspension. The funny thing is that it's the Flyers who came out this tussle worse for wear. Steve Downie suffered a concussion and Vincent Lecavalier suffered injuries to his face and is expected to be out a few games.

By the way, hockey fans, except the debate of fighting to be raised a few octaves for a while after this.

I was always under the impression that a goalie couldn't cross the center red unless the other goalie made obvious motions that they wanted to spar - and even then, they kind of met in the middle most of the time. (Ahhh Patrick Roy memories.)

Ray Emery IS a crazy person. I like him, mostly because he's a goalie and he's kooky and I just can't help it. But he's crazy, and I do believe he should be suspended, and maybe fined.
