FanIQ | Sports Rumors, Gossip, Blogs, News & Discussion ForumsThe collective bargaining agreement permits four day offs for a month and for the Ottawa Senators the day off was spent in the Rockies. There are now 19 games left to be played in this season and the setting of the mountainous region was a perfect backdrop to explain the situation and how things were going to go down. They have little games left to be played and every game form this point onwards counts.
Every points scored adds up to the aggregate and the Senators are in need of every point now. The Senators lost 4-1 to the Calgary Flames Wednesday night at the Saddledome and in light of that it was somewhat a thought that maybe their head coach Paul MacLean might have thought about cancelling the day off. He responded that the NHLPA would not have taken that action lightly.
"The (NHLPA) wouldn't allow that," said MacLean. "That would be against the CBA."
The Senators are in trouble and will have to fight their way out of this one. They are in the thick and the odds are now stacked against them. Coach MacLean knew that they were in deep waters now and said that the team would have to do way better than this if it wanted to remotely get a shot at the playoffs this season.
"It's flat out not good enough. We didn't play hard enough," he said. “We can't expect our goaltender to save us with the way that we've played. Three of the last four games coming out of the Olympic break we've been terrible from start to finish."
