
Sims declared that he would transfer to Virginia last May after stating that he wanted to play closer to home to help support his family.
As a redshirt freshman in 2011, Sims appeared in eight games for the Crimson Tide. He threw for 163 yards and two interceptions off 28 pass attempts.
Sims was rated as one of the best quarterbacks coming out of high school in 2010, where he compiled a 48-4 record and set state records with 10,725 yards and 119 touchdown passes.
He is expected to compete with Michael Rocco and David Watford for the starting position.
