Dyer, who spent two seasons with Auburn, was hoping for immediate eligibility to play with the Red Wolves.
The 5'9", 210-pound RB combined for 2,335 yards off 424 carries (5.5 ypc) and 15 touchdowns for the Tigers, including a 143-yard performance against Oregon in the national championship as a freshman.
Dyer was suspended for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl last year and informed coach Gene Chizik of his intention to transfer following the game.
Former Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn was hired as Arkansas State's new head coach last December.
