Blog Photo - Former Cy Young winner Bob Welch dies at age 57Former MLB pitcher Bob Welch, who won the 1990 AL Cy Young award while pitching for the Oakland Athletics, has died at age 57.

The cause of death is unknown as of yet, although his battle with alcoholism was well documented. He wrote a book about it, and also said that he would be dead if he were still drinking.

Welch played in 5 World Series, and won in 1981 with the Dodgers and 1989 with the A's.

In his 1990 Cy Young campaign, he won 27 games. He's still the last pitcher to win 25 or more games in a season.

Best wishes to the Welch family, as we bid farewell to one of the best pitchers of the 80s and early 90s.
