Former San Diego Padres #1 Overall Pick Matt Bush Arrest Video
Former MLB #1 Overall Pick Matt Bush Is Crying, Which Must Mean He's Not In Baseball Anymore

Matt Bush was selected #1 overall by the San Diego Padres in the 2004 MLB Draft. Now, Matt Bush is not doing nearly as well, after being released by the Blue Jays and now getting arrested for a myriad of charges, including DUI, resisting arrest, and several others.

The MLB Draft is probably the biggest crapshoot out of the major sports leagues in this country, and guys like Bush are a perfect example of that. He never played a single major league game, despite the fact that he took home a $3M signing bonus from the Padres.

He's in rehab now, but it's safe to say that his career is over, unless he becomes the next Josh Hamilton. Good luck with that, Matt.

I hear you.  After I drafted Wang, Matsuzaka, and Cole Hammels, I had clearly committed multiple fantasy baseball crimes in one year.  This guy couldn't have been any worse.

Barring some kind of miraculous lifestyle change, Matt Bush will become only the third #1 overall pick not to play in the Majors, joining (the immortal) Steve Chilcott and Brien Taylor (remember him? he of the $1.5 million bonus and separated shoulder in a bar brawl...).

This is a warning to teams who recently have gone with 'signablility' rather than picking the best player available; while this worked for the Twins with Joe Mauer in 2001, the Padres have an epic failure on their hands with the selection of Bush over about half a dozen guys who are already impact players in the majors.
