While most Americans could care less about the Eurobasketball championship, if you’re a basketball fan in the offseason, you should care. The Eurobasketball championship between France and Lithuania featured seven NBA players. When you have players such as Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum, and Jonas Valanciunas in the game it is anything but a junior varsity game.
For Tony Parker and France, this was a big victory. France was in the Finals last year, but lost in an upset. Parker has won three NBA championships, but the European title had alluded him until Sunday afternoon.
France cruised past Lithuania 80-66 behind Parker’s 12 points and Batum’s 17 points. Linas Kleiza added 20 points for Lithuania, but France’s frontcourt was able to shut down Jonas Valanciunas completely.
Parker can now add the Eurobasketball championship trophy to his mantle piece and if he’s healthy enough, maybe an Olympic medal some time in the future.
