France “confident” about defeating archrivals England at Euro 2012
The chance of France winning Euro 2012 dropped considerably when Bacary Sagna got ruled out of the tournament, something that has been acknowledged by coach Laurent Blanc. However, Bacary Sagna believes Les Bleus have a strong shot at the title.
The Arsenal right back Bacary Sagna recently spoke to the official website of the English Premier League. In the interview, Bacary Sagna expressed his faith in the French national team and stated that Laurent Blanc had done a good job training France’s squad for Euro 2012.
The French national team faces their first match from the group stages tomorrow. Interestingly, it is against France’s archrivals England. That’s right England and France will start off their Euro 2012 campaign by playing against each other in the Group D opener.
Bacary Sagna believes France can acquire an impressive victory against England on Monday in spite of his absence. Bacary Sagna broke his leg during an English Premier League game against Norwich City a couple of months ago.
The 29-year-old defender Bacary Sagna also believes that France’s recent success is because of their old school tactics. Bacary Sagna explained that Laurent Blanc and Co. had gone back to basics.
“We had to go back to our roots and start working even more,” Bacary Sagna said. “We were in a bad way, and couldn't find the right way to play football,” Bacary Sagna said in an interview to the official website of the English Premier League club Arsenal.
The French national team had to experience an embarrassing exit from the Group Stages of the FIFA 2010 World Cup. Since then Laurent Blanc has successfully rejuvenated France to a 20-plus undefeated streak.
“We had the players, but on the pitch we couldn't play together,” Bacary Sagna continued. “When you don't have that special thing as a team you don't win games.”
“Now we have changed many things - training is different, everyone is more focused to come back strong. We are confident and people are not scared because we have had some quite good results recently. But we know that in a competition it can be totally different.”
The French national team is considered to be one of the favorites in the tournament. Laurent Blanc has lined up a strong attack. France’s performance against England tomorrow will provide analysts with a good picture of the future.
