Francisco Liriano Would Like To Know Why He's Not With The Big League Twins Yet

The Twins Don't Think They Have Room For Another Dominating Lefty
by CriticalFanatic

7-0 in his last nine starts at AAA Rochester with a 2.73 ERA normally gets you a call-up to the big leagues. Especially when you've already proven yourself on the major league level.

Francisco Liriano is dominating in his rehab stint and would like to know why he remains at the minor league level.
"He's now dominating," Genske told FOXSports.com. "The team agrees he's dominating. (The union) has determined that there is reasonable cause to open an investigation to see whether the Twins, by leaving him in the minors, are violating his rights in the Basic Agreement."
So why haven't the Twins brought up the powerful lefty? To their credit, they've won 21 of their past 28 games and have gotten solid performances out of the current starting rotation which consists of right-handers Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey, Nick Blackburn and Livan Hernandez along with lefty Glen Perkins.

There may be a little more to story, however, reports Ken Rosensquirrel of FoxSports:
If Liriano filed a grievance, he could seek either a restoration of major-league service time, financial compensation or both. His loss of major-league time already will prevent him from qualifying for salary arbitration with three years of service and almost certainly will prevent him from qualifying as a "Super Two" player as well.
Certainly seems odd to withhold the obviously benefits of a nasty left-handed pitcher. The Twins will continue to insist that these financial implications played no role in their decision, but it's difficult to see it any other way. Liriano could command some big arbitration dollars.

Tell me, would you rather have Francisco or Livan Hernandez and his 5.44 ERA?

I think the fairest thing to do is let the White Sox have him.

Its cheap, but you can't say its not a smart move by the Twins.  They're still in contention and can bring him up soon, but not lose a year of his service.  Brilliant move on their part.

I'm pretty sure the Twins are concerned that Liriano wasn't honest with management before. When his elbow was hurting in 2006, he told the team nothing. Then, we he did report arm pain, Francisco claimed it was coming from his forearm rather than his elbow. He pitched like 3 more games with the injury. He had to have a new "ligament" transplanted in his elbow. Not good if you are a pitcher...I'd be cautious if I were the Twins too.

There is an article in today's Star Tribune, where it states that Liriano, at 2 years and 45 days of service time, even if he were called up today(with 73 days left) still fall short of the "Super Twos" (Top 17 percent of players with between 2 and 3 years service time).  Last year, the low Super Two qualifiers were Casey Kotchman(2 yrs., 144 days) and Ryan Howard (2 yrs., 145).  So Liriano will, even at 2 and 118 days, likely fall short of the threshold.

Not too mention last time he was in the majors he had an over 11 ERA in 3 starts. I think the Twins are waiting to trade Hernandez and then will call him up. I just dont get his greivance. Its the TEAMS decision not Lirano's. Again in sports its turning into a me league and not whats best for the team

Because The Twins are playing great without him right now, why rock the boat. They can call him up at anytime, but don't need him at the moment.

The Twins don't need him now. They are Hot, and playing great baseball and getting great Pitching. They can always call him up as a Middle Reliever", but why rock the boat now when they are playing so well.
