It's got to suck to be a coach and go in front of the press after your team just got totally humiliated. I'd have to imagine Phil Jackson didn't enjoy speaking to the media last night and having people questioning his coaching decisions. And the worst part is you have to attend those press conferences or you get fined.
But fear not Phil, there's a way you can avoid the endless media scrutiny while still keeping money in your wallet.
French national soccer coach Raymond Domenech, who's team officially surrendered it's way out of Euro 2008 yesterday in a humiliating 2-0 loss to Italy, decided that rather than answer the media's questions about his future as head coach, he'd propose to his girlfriend.
"I have nothing to say about my job, but I will say that I want to marry Estelle," Domenech told M6 television after France was defeated 2-0 by Italy to finish last in its Euro 2008 group. Now that is smart man. Dodges the media's question, and makes it clear to his woman (Journalist Estelle Denis pictured above) that she comes before soccer.
Of course, she hasn't said yes yet, but who cares. Domenech definitely broke new ground in how to throw the media for a loop.
Plus it works a lot better than the "Hey! Look over there!" trick perfected by the Mets when they lose.
