Rebilas-USA TODAY SportsThe Cardinals hosted division rival St Louis Rams this week and managed to win their first division game since early last season with a score of 30-10 and their 6th win at home out of 7.
After not practicing all week due to a sore elbow, Carson Palmer completed 27 passes of 32 attempts, the second highest completion percentage in Cardinals history. The offensive line showed improvement on blocking and protection as Palmer was sacked only once during this game. Larry Fitzgerald had 12 receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown, his most receptions in a single game in over 4 years. Rashard Mendenhall also had a touchdown run during the first few minutes of the game.
St Louis was held to just 44 yards rushing. Rams’ rookie wide receiver Tavon Austin had a 56 yard catch that lead to the Rams’ lone touchdown. Karlos Dansby picked off Rams’ backup quarterback Kellen Clemens for a touchdown. John Abraham had 3 sacks including a safety. Rookie safety Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu was injured during the game, after a kickoff return following the safety, with a torn ACL and there is currently no timetable on his return.
The Cardinals were able to get past the Rams easily due to their quarterback problem with starter Sam Bradford out with an injury. The defense did show improvement from last week’s close game against Philly. Next week the Cardinals will travel to Nashville to take on the Titans. The will need to carry the same momentum on both sides of the ball if they want to remain in the wildcard chase.
