The Jets are officially in a nosedive
Third straight L

Oh how Jet Nation years for the days they used to alternate wins and losses. This is the third straight loss for the Jets, who are now 0-3 coming out of the bye. Just three weeks ago they were sitting pretty for the last wild card spot, with the "soft spot" of their schedule coming up and 5 wins already under their belt. Since then, the team has simply unravelled, beginning with an offense so putrid, it of course gets its own paragraph.

What offense?

The Jets have scored 20 points over the past 3 games, or, even better, 6 points over the last 2 games. All the opposition must do to stop the Jets right now is stop the run, which isn't very hard considering the struggles of their offensive line and their lack of Adrian Peterson in the backfield. Simply put, the Jets run game is above-average at best, and the passing game is the worst in the league. Which brings us to the poster boy for the Jets woes, Geno Smith.

Smith adrift

Geno Smith has not thrown a touchdown since the first quarter of the Jets' week 7 matchup against the Patriots, and 9 INTs since then. That's not good. The fact is, Geno's struggles are a product of a confluence of factors. The Jets may very well have the worst set of skill position players in the NFL, especially with Geno's once-favorite target, Jeremy Kerley, injured. Their offensive line can not pass block and Smith has been struggling mightily under pressure this season. He's certainly doing himself no favors, missing open receivers and making bad decisions with the ball, but does anybody really stand a chance out there? His backup, Matt Simms, didn't really do any better.

The plan

Moving forward, the Jets need to forget about wins and losses and simply treat this like an evaluation period for the 2014 season. Geno should play until the Jets are absolutely sure he is not worth investing in next season. The same goes for the rest of the young starters on this roster.
