After all, this is the Kansas City Chiefs! The Kansas City Chiefs that went 2-14 last season and picked No. 1 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.
This marks the 2nd best start in franchise history. KC started 9-0 in 2003 behind a prolific offense. Time eventually showed that that Chiefs' squad was a fraudulent 9-0 because it featured a matador-like defense that couldn't stop your local high school's offense. Will this team be exposed later in the season?
It's hard to tell, but one thing is for sure--if the Chiefs are exposed, it won't be because of the defense. Yet again Bob Sutton's defense proved overwhelming for the opposing offense--in this case Case Keenum and the Houston Texans.
If there will be an undoing of this team it will be the offense, which sputtered yet again this week. There were a few positive signs -- the return of Anthony Fasano, more balls being thrown to Dwayne Bowe and Jamaal Charles being Jamaal Charles -- but still the game was won by the defense. Alex Smith made a few seemingly-crucial mistakes, including a bad read on 4th and goal and a 4th quarter interception, and for the first time all season KC lost the turnover battle. The defense can't do it all all season, can it?
