Mandatory Credit: Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY SportsThe New England Patriots traveled to Houston to play the Texans for Week 13 of the 2013 NFL season. At the beginning of the year this looked like an excellent rematch of two teams that played a year ago. Coming into this game after the thrilling overtime win against Denver, I thought this might be a trap game. Houston has too much talent – injury riddled or not for anyone to not take seriously. The Patriots came out flat in the first half and needed another come from behind effort in the second half in order to prevail.

Offense
Nothing looked great in the first half. Tom Brady did look very good the third and fourth quarters. Stevan Ridley got to hold a football on the sidelines in sweats presumably due to his fumblitis. Shane Vereen, LeGarrette Blount, and Brandon Bolden looked decent in his place. This team needs Ridley to find a way to keep the ball in his mitts going forward. Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski were stellar once again.

Defense
The defense seems to have developed a serious problem in stopping the run. I think Ben Tate is a very good back and would love to have him on my team, but there were times he was untouched – or only arm tackled. You can’t allow a guy playing with broken ribs to burn you like that. The defense did however make enough plays to help escape Houston with a win.

Special Teams
Though he missed a FG from 55 yards, Stephen Gostkowski is having a great year. Josh Boyce had a 41 yard kick return to set-up great field position.

This team has to play better in the first half going forward or risk not being able to come back. Regarding Anthony Smiths insinuations regarding scouting/spying… You’re better than that sir, now you look like a sore sport.

The road ahead
The Cleveland Browns come to town this week after losing a close one at home to the Jaguars. Let’s hope there’s a solid 60 minute effort for this one.
