From the Armchair: Seattle Seahawks, Week 1
Marshawn Lynch only had 43 yards. What? Part of me wonders if this was at least in part a result of cutting Michael Robinson and having the inexperienced guys at FB. I said it when it happened, Mike Rob was an unsung hero on that team, and deserved a lot of credit for opening up holes for Lynch.
Despite trouble with protection and being pressured most of the game, Russell Wilson somehow managed to throw for more than 300 yards for his first time during a regular season game.
Player of the Game: Doug Baldwin
Baldwin was clutch, and had a couple of heads-up 3rd down conversions that without them, I don't think the Seahawks would have been able to get momentum going and they certainly wouldn't have won that game.
Honorable Mention: Jermaine Kearse, Golden Tate, and Earl Thomas
Percy who? (I say that tongue-in-cheek - I know he'll be a great addition.) Golden Tate has an ability to find holes and earn YAC, and yesterday was no different. Jermaine Kearse got VER-TI-CAL for that touchdown reception - impressive. I hope he gets some more footballs thrown his way in the near future...he's a playmaker in the making. Earl Thomas was all over the place (as usual) and managed to cause a fumble in the last couple minutes of the game in the red zone to stop Carolina's scary final drive that would have put them on top, had they scored.
Amusing Moment of the Game: Frank Alexander being ejected for punching Giacomini in the face. I loved it because Giacomini got punched in the face, and the Seahawks got a fresh set of downs to work with.
They managed to eek out a win in Carolina, but it wasn't pretty. The offense seemed inefficient until late in the game, Wilson seemed frazzled at times, they couldn't get the run game going, and play calling was all over the place. The defense was stout though and held Cam Newton to 125 yards. It wouldn't be a Seahawks game if I didn't legitimately fear a heart attack at some point. All I know is that they had better play a LOT better next week than they did yesterday or it's going to get very ugly, very quickly.
