From the Armchair: Seattle Seahawks, Week 1

Blog Photo - From the Armchair: Seattle Seahawks, Week 1 I'm going to be honest; I don't know if the Panthers DL was really good or the Seahawks OL was incredibly bad, or maybe a little bit of both. I have a problem with Breno Giacomini and Paul McQuistan, and I have since last season. There were some missed blocks, and once again, stupid penalties backed the Seahawks up several times.

Marshawn Lynch only had 43 yards. What? Part of me wonders if this was at least in part a result of cutting Michael Robinson and having the inexperienced guys at FB. I said it when it happened, Mike Rob was an unsung hero on that team, and deserved a lot of credit for opening up holes for Lynch.

Despite trouble with protection and being pressured most of the game, Russell Wilson somehow managed to throw for more than 300 yards for his first time during a regular season game.

Player of the Game: Doug Baldwin
Baldwin was clutch, and had a couple of heads-up 3rd down conversions that without them, I don't think the Seahawks would have been able to get momentum going and they certainly wouldn't have won that game.

Honorable Mention: Jermaine Kearse, Golden Tate, and Earl Thomas
Percy who? (I say that tongue-in-cheek - I know he'll be a great addition.) Golden Tate has an ability to find holes and earn YAC, and yesterday was no different. Jermaine Kearse got VER-TI-CAL for that touchdown reception - impressive. I hope he gets some more footballs thrown his way in the near future...he's a playmaker in the making. Earl Thomas was all over the place (as usual) and managed to cause a fumble in the last couple minutes of the game in the red zone to stop Carolina's scary final drive that would have put them on top, had they scored.

Amusing Moment of the Game: Frank Alexander being ejected for punching Giacomini in the face. I loved it because Giacomini got punched in the face, and the Seahawks got a fresh set of downs to work with.

They managed to eek out a win in Carolina, but it wasn't pretty. The offense seemed inefficient until late in the game, Wilson seemed frazzled at times, they couldn't get the run game going, and play calling was all over the place. The defense was stout though and held Cam Newton to 125 yards. It wouldn't be a Seahawks game if I didn't legitimately fear a heart attack at some point. All I know is that they had better play a LOT better next week than they did yesterday or it's going to get very ugly, very quickly.

I saw a play where Giacomini got beat (missed whole block) on a simple line stunt and i didn't watch a lot of it so i assume it was even worse. You should def punch him in throat for that kinda crap  angry i mean these days that's kind of par for course off the D line.

He drives me crazy - that stuff happens all the time, and he takes 90% of the penalties on offense. Ridiculous.

I watched bits and pieces of this one. The offensive line did seem to be struggling a bit and the lack of run i think is what made the whole offense seem out of whack. The play calling is geared around having the run and the threat of the run as a extension helping those WR's who aren't extremely quick and like to catch ball underneath the safeties to have a little more space to operate in as the D diverts more effort and bodies to stopping Lynch. So they are def in need of a lil added O-line work this week.

But from what i saw they played strong and physical on the defensive end of things. But will def need to tighten up that run game for the Niners !

(cmon now give me some props for a lotta fluff that reads smart don't it)

**** Carolina! The Seattle plays that I saw during commercial breaks of my game worried me. They looked rough, and they still managed to pull through. Bodes well for them. Way to win!

Carolina may be a dark horse.
