From the Armchair: Washington Redskins Week 1

The return of Robert Griffin III was heralded for much of the preseason. Would he come back and play like he did last year? The answer to that question was answered quickly on Washington's first possession. NO!

I am not a stats person. I do know when your quarterback throws half as many interceptions in the first game of the season as he did all of the year before, there's a problem. I know when your qb rushes for half as many yards as your #1 RB, you are in trouble. I watched in awe at the horror of the Skins offense, play after play, quarter after quarter. There is no "good" news, until you get to the 3rd quarter, when miraculously the offense got it's legs back. The defense made a few great plays: Kerrigan swatting the ball and Hall running it back for a TD. Keeping the Eagles to 33 points, most earned in the first quarter. There is much work to be done if the Skins want to contend for a back to back NFC EAST Championship. It is only one game, and last year we were 0-4 til after the bye week.

Next week we head to the great white north to take on Green Bay who will be looking to redeem themselves after a loss to the SF 49'rs.

As they say most teams are not as bad or as good as they looked in week 1. RG3 was way way out of whack watching him throw ball early his foot work was horrific and he seemed timid and didn't want to plant and throw and be exposed and made way too many back foot throws. He settled in some but not enough but perhaps like a Pitcher in baseball coming back from a long injury or same for a race horse off a layoff he "needed that first one" just to get back in the game mentally and knock the rust off.

A good week of practice and we will hopefully see a lot more of the old RG3 next week. So indeed Jen  its still far too early to panic  smiley

God, I hope you're right.

I'm very concerned about the 'skins' defense...  As long as they continue to give up alot of points they way they did against the high-powered Mike Vick and the Eagles, it could be a overwhelming year on the 2012 NFL's rookie of the year award winner and the 'skins' offense...

YOU are never a "jerk"! Believe me, there is noting you could point out that I haven't wound in my head a hundred times. Griffin was not ready, period. I don't understand why Shanahan didn't put Cousins in. I love griffin I do, but i want my team to win, and not be embarrassed.
Ringling & Barnum kept running through my head. It's one game and I get that, but that can not happen again.

Yea, we were kind of wondering why Cousins was on the sideline...Griffin didn't look ready at all :(

So - not to be a jerk or rub it in, because I'm sure the 'Skins will make adjustments and turn things around. Like Griffin said, there were things that happened in that game that they just don't ordinarily do; they weren't playing like they ordinarily play. Also, it was a bizarre game. Just the first quarter had so many weird things happen, it could end up being a full Football Follies episode all its own.
