Fulham are furious over Liverpool for influencing their American star forward Clint Dempsey. The furious Cottagers have reported Liverpool to the Premier League claiming the Reds are responsible for tapping-up their midfielder.
The Premier League has also confirmed that Fulham has lodged an official complaint against Liverpool. Meanwhile, Clint Dempsey watches the saga unravel in silence.
Fulham manager Martin Jol is enraged by Liverpool chairman Tom Werner and manager Brendan Rodgers after the duo went public over their interest in Clint Dempsey.
Last night, the Premier League confirmed that they were going to launch an investigation into this matter. Liverpool will face a hefty fine or even see points deduction if they are found guilty of charge.
Just last week Martin Jol called Liverpool an “embarrassment” and lambasted against their famous code of conduct. This happened after Clint Dempsey was fined by Fulham for going on strike.
“The Premier League has received a complaint from Fulham regarding certain comments made by Liverpool officials and is currently looking into the matter,” read a Premier League statement.
Yesterday, Martin Jol vented his frustration at Clint Dempsey yet again.
“Mentally, he wants to move,” Martin Jol said. “He doesn’t want to play here. I said before, his head was turned.
“It would have been better if Liverpool would have followed it up with a formal bid, but they didn’t, so as until now there is no bid on table.
“It’s a problem and a situation you don’t want. It’s not something you can talk to a player about every day because he doesn’t want to.
“It started during our pre-season tour to Germany. I was probably a bit naive, asking, ‘Clint, do you want to start?’. All he said was, ‘You know what I want’.
“This hasn’t caused any disruption to the squad because of the decision I made in Germany not to play him.”
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has never been shy of hinting interest in Clint Dempsey, who has been a Liverpool transfer target since the beginning of the summer transfer window.
Brendan Rodgers sees Clint Dempsey as good option in Reds attack. The 29-year-old United States international has been in good form for club and country over the past year. Clint Dempsey scored 23 goals in 46 appearances for Fulham last season.
Rumor has it Liverpool could offer Charlie Adam to Fulham in exchange for Clint Dempsey when this saga resolves. The deal would also include Liverpool paying cash to Fulham.
