"NAZI Olympics II, Where are the dissidents?"

About Me:
Born in Santa Monica, CA and transplanted to Mississippi at very young age. I was raised around an auto dealership run by my mom. My dad was an MD and let her run the dealership to keep her out of trouble I guess. I wasn't so lucky as I stayed in trouble. Played FB, did Martial Arts and raced cars. That was my life until I joined the Army and Uncle Sammy decided to chunk me out of perfectly good airplanes for no good reason. Still don't know what I did to piss him off. Worked for the Fed, State and County Law Enforcement plus I've owned my own engine machine shop. I've raced SCCA, NHRA, IHRA and local dirt. Now I do more watching than doing.

Funny Car driver Scott Kalitta, RIP
by badsam1956

Funny car driver Scott Kalitta from Snead Island, Fla. died during qualifying at English Town, NJ June 21, 2008. Fans and his fellow competitors alike will miss him. Scott, the son of drag racing legend Connie Kalitta, was 46 years old and leaves his wife Kathy and two sons, Corey age 14, and Colin age 8. I hope all of his fans and all racing fans will say a prayer for Scott and his family.

Scott Kalitta won Top Fuel Championships in 1994 and 1995 and then retired from driving in 1997 at Topeka, Kansas. The driving bug never left Scott as he came out of retirement 1999 and eventually returned to Funny Car in 2006. He was the driver of the DHL Toyota body Funny Car and was considered one of the elite drivers in the series with 18 Career National Wins. Kalitta’s car exploded and then burst into flames at the very end of his qualifying run. Onlooker estimates that Scott’s car hit the wall in the runoff area at 300 MPH were confirmed by crew chief Glenn Mikres. New Jersey State Police will help investigate the fatal accident.

Funny Car is the most popular class in NHRA and the most dangerous. Last year the racing community lost Eric Medien in a testing accident at Gainesville, Florida.

So say a prayer for Scott and the family.
