Strawberry Hill Hotel and Spa (Jamaica) has launched its High Stakes Backgammon Tournament, which is scheduled for June 6-8 at the hotel in Irish Town, St Andrew. This is the third staging of the tournament and 32 players are expected to enter for cash and prizes valued at $1.5 million. The registration cost of $35,000 will cover participation, meals and drinks for the weekend. The first edition of this tournament took place in 2006. Then, for an entry fee of $25,000, competitors stood to walk away with $450,000 with the winner getting $140,000. Among the players, one could have seen Edward Azan, Chris Blackwell, Warren Burrowes, Tino Caldarelli, Lenny Chen and Blaise Hart.
