Blog Photo - Game On! Sports Lineup 5/8/14Greetings, sports fans! Are you excited for the NFL Draft? Who do you think your team is taking first? Who will end up Mr. Irrelevant? Will Johnny Football slip out of the first round? Who do the Texans take with the first overall pick? I must admit, I'm quite tired of mock drafts and NFL Network talking heads discussions about the draft. This year's extra time has really resulted in overkill with the coverage leading up to it, so I'm excited today is finally here, but for probably different reasons than most football fans.

If Pryor doesn't behave himself, I will hunt him down and haunt him for the rest of his days.  (resident Louisville fan).

I agree the Browns are an intriguing team. Thought they were getting closer last year, and it appears as if their rookie GM has done a pretty good job so far this year. My Houston Oilers fandom keeps me from rooting for the Steelers (AFC Central history) or Ravens (their owner stole them from Cleveland just like Bud Adams stole the Oilers from Houston), and I'm kinda indifferent about Cincinnati. Cleveland, though, I just feel for them somehow...probably because they've been even worse than the Texans, and they had like a 5-year jump on us.

In professional sports, it's not about which franchise starts first as far as establishing themselves as a team, it's about who that they have on the team have as far as the owner, CEO, manager, coaching staff, etc. and how creative that team can be in order to be in position to be a championship contender and team. The Baltimore Ravens are a great example of what I'm saying. It took the Seattle Seahawks 38 years to finally win a Lombardi Trophy and they been around since 1976.  As fans we will never agree with some of the moves that the powers to be make as far as moving a franchise to another city or making trades but at the same time we shouldn't expect anything in return.

Now that Bridgewater is gone, I'd say Carr is probably #1 on their board.

It better be Mr. Carr because Matt Schaub is with the Raiders and I'm not a believer in QB Ryan Fitzpatrick being a starting QB for Houston even though they have good backup depth with TJ Yates and Case Keenum.  However if the Texans pass up on Derek Carr, then they better hope AJ McCarron from Alabama is there and Jimmy Garoppolo from Eastern Illinois as well.

Now that is something that will really get Houston going...taking the little Carr. I don't believe in faulting him for whatever issues his brother may or may not have. (Have to admit he was woefully under-protected by his OL when here.) However, I think the pressure on Derek in Houston would be immense, and I'm afraid that would be setting a young QB up for failure.  I have no idea if teams take stuff like that into account, but it just seems like they'd be setting the young man up.

Texans could very easily go a different route and add depth at offensive line or wide receiver and then add an Aaron Murray, AJ McCarron or the quarterback from Eastern Illinois that everybody is raving about in the 3rd or 4th round. As for Derek Carr, I think this situation is a bit different. Sure, he's David Carr's little buddy but I to me, he is essentially falling into the lap of the Texans where as when Houston drafted the older Carr, I think they overreached. I also think that since David Carr never really had the success in Houston, young Derek wouldn't have nearly the pressure he would had David turned out to be a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady

Rams have decided that games in the NFC West are going to be won in the trenches.  They grab arguably the best offensive lineman and the best defensive lineman in the draft with their 2 first round picks.  According to reports, they were pretty damn close to jumping back up into the first round to grab Zac Martin but couldn't get a deal done with the Vikings.  Overall, I really like what Fisher and Snead have done on day 1

5/8/14   |   RaiderSteeler15   |   21423 respect

Well well well, Teddy Bridgewater is officially a Minnesota Viking.  That means that Vikings' QB Christian Ponder's days in the NFL are numbered for sure...

That Blake Bortles pick is very intriguing.  We'll see pretty soon how good of a QB Bortles will be for the Jaguars.  I'm not sold on Jags' QB Chad Henne being the answer for the Jaguars' offense long-term wise...

Heh...have to admit, the more he slides, the more I'm wishing the Texans would make a move. 1) I know he needs to tone it down a notch or two (or maybe even more), but I think he's shown some progress in that regard. 2) I don't know that he's much different than any other kid of millionaire parents would be. Doesn't make it right, but he could be much worse. 3) I don't normally watch much college ball, but he was "electric" enough (for lack of a better phrase) for me to start watching A&M games. 4) I'll just die if the Cowboys take him and he becomes a star (no pun intended) there.
