Big baseball haps and NFL players report to training camp [Live Sports Thread]

7/24/13 in MLB   |   Jess   |   35090 respect

Greetings, sports fans! NFL players are starting to report to training camp today...are you excited? I am. In the meantime we've got some summer sports to keep us occupied.

Blog Photo - Game On! Sports Lineup 7/24/13First though, let's take a look back at the past couple of days of news in sports: MLB is dropping the hammer on this whole PED issue; ICYMI Ryan Braun is out for the rest of the season, and people are overreacting to the extent of suggesting that his MVP award be stripped....speaking of PED's, the Yankees may not have to keep A-Rod out of action for long, as he faces a possible lifetime MLB ban....In happier baseball news, the Red Sox lock up Pedroia for another 7 years at $100M...there were more than a couple of great plays so far this week but we have vids for two of them; Jason Heyward against the Mets, and Lorenzo Cain channeling Willie Mays....I don't know about you, but when I think of Wisconsin, I don't think "mugging". I guess Madison is more dangerous than we realize....Talking football - as training camp gets underway, Darrelle Revis has been medically cleared....three Saints defenders will start on the PUP list....the Niners and Bucs void the Eric Wright trade due to a failed physical....It looks like Tannehill and his new receiver aren't jiving....The Bucs do sign RB Peyton Hillis....Devin Hester and Chris Johnson will be taking on a cheetah (whaaaat?)....and Jerry Jones is making claims that LA is "closer than ever" to getting a team again.

What's on the plate today? Let's take a look...(all times eastern)

Per Elias, Stephen Strasburg is 1st NL pitcher in modern era w/ 8+ IP, 12+ K while allowing 2 or fewer hits and 0 walks in a loss.

Nats now 5 games below .500.

As we know, I'm not the world's biggest NASCAR fan, but damn if this truck race on dirt doesn't look like a total blast.

Also, this is for all intents and purposes the last big event on SPEED before it becomes Fox Sports 1. End of an era.
