Will Game 2 of the Cup Finals Be Another Classic? [Saturday Sports Live Thread]

Blog Photo - Game On! Sports Live Thread 6/15/13The Blackhawks and Bruins have had a few days to rest after their triple overtime classic in Game 1. The resumption of hostilities in the Stanley Cup Final headlines a packed Saturday in sports. There's also the third round of the US Open, where only two players are under par right now, but one of them happens to be Phil Mickelson. There's also a full day of baseball, the start of the Confederations Cup (a dry run for the World Cup) and College World Series, and both stock car and IndyCar racing. There's something for everyone today, including the fight lovers, with both UFC and boxing too.

Here are the highlights of today's schedule, with my personal picks in bold (all times are eastern and are pm unless otherwise noted).

NHL:
8:00 – Stanley Cup Finals Game 2: Boston at Chicago – NBCSN

Golf:
12:00 – US Open Third Round – NBC

MLB:
1:10 – Cubs (Feldman) at Mets (Niese)
4:05 – Red Sox (Lackey) at Orioles (Garcia)
4:05 – Blue Jays (Dickey) at Rangers (Lindblom)
4:05 – Giants (Gaudin) at Braves (Minor)
4:05 – Dodgers (Kershaw) at Pirates (Cumpton) (Note: I have no idea who this pitcher is, and suspect the Pirates made up that name to mess with us.)
4:10 – Brewers (Gallardo) at Reds (Bailey)
4:10 – Phillies (Pettibone) at Rockies (Chatwood)
4:10 – Cardinals (Lynn) at Marlins (Koehler)
4:10 – Royals (Guthrie) at Rays (Cobb) (Don't laugh, the Royals are actually one of the hotter teams in the league and rocked Matt Moore last night.)
7:15 – Yankees (Phelps) at Angels (Hanson) – FOX
7:15 – Nationals (Zimmermann) at Indians (Kazmir) – FOX
7:15 – Tigers (Sanchez) at Twins (Deduno) – FOX
7:15 – Mariners (Hernandez) at Athletics (Griffin) – FOX
7:15 – White Sox (Danks) at Astros (Harrell) – FOX
10:10 – Diamondbacks (Miley) at Padres (Marquis)

Soccer:
2:30 – Confederations Cup: Brazil vs. Japan – ESPN
5:00 – Portland vs. Dallas (MLS) – ESPN
7:00 – DC United vs. Toronto FC (MLS)
7:30 – Columbus vs. Montreal (MLS)
9:00 – Colorado vs. San Jose (MLS)
10:00 – Vancouver vs. New England (MLS)

Racing:

2:15 – NASCAR Nationwide Series Alliance Truck Parts 250 at Michigan International Speedway - ABC
4:00 – IndyCar Milwaukee Indy Fest at the Milwaukee Mile – NBCSN
7:00 – Ford NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals Qualifying – ESPN2

College World Series:
3:00 – Mississippi State vs. Oregon State – ESPN2
8:00 – Indiana vs. Louisville – ESPN

MMA:
UFC 161 – Rashad Evans vs. Dan Henderson – PPV

Boxing:
10:45 – Miguel Angel Garcia vs. Juan Manuel Lopez (WBO featherweight title) - HBO

Don't forget you can bet Q bucks on many of these events at the GameCenter. If I don't end up outside in this gorgeous weather, I'll be checking out the US Open, some baseball, maybe the Confederations Cup, and of course, the IndyCar race (live thread here for that race). Whatever your watching today though, Q it up here throughout.

We have overtime once again. I may not be able to make it to the end (I've had a few tonight), but the rest of you have fun. wink

I would say how the Orioles lost, but I have to go drink enough to forget about it.

Today's race winners were Regan Smith is the Nationwide race and Ryan Hunter-Reay in the IndyCar race.

Rays pitcher Alex Cobb just got hit in the head with a batted ball. The stretcher is out for him, but he wasn't really moving except for his foot a couple of times. Just awful.

Still two guys under par at the Open, but it's a different two now: John Senden and Luke Donald. Schwartzel, Rose, and Stricker are even par. Mickelson is +1. Woods and McIlroy are at +5. Sergio carded a 10 earlier.

The Confederations Cup got underway with this brilliant goal by Neymar in just the third minute.

All groups are off at the US Open.

HAPPY FELIX DAY! Hopefully these guys can get him some run support...Oakland scares me though. Heck...the Astros scare me.
