Gareth Bale picks up dream debut with Real Madrid
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti showered tons of praise on Gareth Bale after the Welshman drew first blood for his side by scoring on his debut. Bale made an important contribution to Real Madrid in the 2-2 draw with Villareal on Saturday.
Ancelotti is confident the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder will prove to be an important player in Real Madrid’s squad in the future. Bale’s Real Madrid debut brought forth mixed review, some suggesting that the winger lacked composure while other suggested that he did justice to the world record transfer fees Real Madrid paid for him this summer.
Anyway, Ancelotti has confirmed that Real Madrid will be playing Bale a lot this season. The Italian boss believes Bale is happy at the club and is settling down well.
“I think he is happy because scoring the first goal for Real Madrid is very good for him,” Ancelotti said. “It was a difficult game for him, as for all the players, but he showed a good attitude on the pitch.”
There was much speculation about whether Cristiano Ronaldo will allow Bale to play on the left wing regularly, since he too specializes on the same wing as the coveted Portuguese. During the game Ronaldo and Bale changed wings, allowing space to play for each other.
“It was the first time they've played together, and they will swap positions now and then because their movement is in towards goal from the wings,” Ancelotti added. “But they might change wings sometimes, it's nothing out of the ordinary.”
Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s new midfield signing Asier Illarramendi also made his first league appearance for Los Blancos. Illarramendi was called back at the hour mark, but not before he had won over Ancelotti’s heart.
“They played well,” Ancelotti said. “Their performances were good. I didn't play them for the full 90 minutes because in their first match it isn't a good idea, so after an hour I took them off.”
