Blogging the bases on Tuesday's MLB action ...
Angels 18, Yankees 9 After 6 innings Garret Anderson had his 10 RBIs and had one more chance in the 9th with two men on to break the all time record. Not much of a contest for Stud of the Night. Alex Rodriguez hits 2 more HR, now at 42 on the season.
Tigers 2, Indians 1 Yesterday Steve Phillips suggested the Tigers were unwise to send out Jair Jurrjens against the Cleveland in this critical game. This was all the info Leyland needed to send his young starter out the mound. The result: No-hit baseball for 5 innings, and just one hit and run in 6 2/3. Zumaya came in to face one batter, looked sharp. Good news all around for Detroit.
Bedards 6, Rangers 2 Cy Young struck out 11 more Tuesday night, tying the Orioles record for most strikeouts in a season.
Brewers 7, DBacks 4 The main story here is the Crew keeping pace with the Cubs with a big win over a recently hot Arizona team. But the more impressive feat is Diamonbacks' third basemen Mark Reynolds tying the MLB record with 9 strikeouts in his last 9 plate appearances. Adam Dunn called to say he's jealous.
Cubs 5, Giants 1 Tim Lincecum was nearly un-hittable for 8 innings. Good thing Bruce Bochy sent him out for the 9th. 5 run rally keeps the Cubs atop the NL Central, thanks in no small part to Cliff Floyd's pops "I said, 'C'mon, pops, let's do something,' " Floyd said. "It's definitely a weird feeling. I can't really explain it other than to say he was really inside of me. I never really had this feeling before. But hopefully it'll stick with me."
