MLB Hall of Famer Gary Carter has died at age 57

Former Expos and Mets catcher and Baseball Hall of Famer Gary Carter has died at age 57, according to Major League Baseball.

Carter was one of the greatest offensive catchers of all time, making 11 All Star appearances, and finished in the top 6 of NL MVP voting four times.

Carter was diagnosed with a grade IV brain tumor last spring, and doctors later found more tumors as well.

Carter spent his last few years in Florida, as the coach of the Balm Beach Atlantic University baseball team. He was at their opening day game just last Thursday.

He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003, becoming the 13th catcher to receive the honor. He finished his career with 324 HR, 1225 RBI and 2092 hits. Click here to see his Hall of Fame acceptance speech.
