Ok, maybe that's a stretch, but remember when everyone jumped on GM Kenny Williams' when he acquiried Floyd from the Phillies for Freddy Garcia in Dec. 06'?
Here's Floyd's stat line for today (he carried a no-no into the 8th inning):
| IP | H | R | ER | HR | BB | SO | GB | FB | TBF | #Pit | Dec. | ERA | ||
| 4/12 | DET | W 7-0 | 7.1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 4 | 4 | 107 | W (2-0 | 2.03 |
We still love Freddy in Chicago for helping the Sox bring home a championship, but lets face it. Although he won 17 games for the Sox in 06', Kenny Williams knew Freddy was on the downside of his career due to a major velocity loss (Garcia went from mid 90s' to late 80s' shortly after the 05' campaign), and shipped him and his $10 million salary for the very promising Floyd.
What a steal it's turned out to be! Although it's still early, Gavin Floyd has followed up a great spring with two very quality starts, both against the Tigers (who have a formidable lineup). Garcia on the other hand was a big time bust in 07' with the Phillies, going 1-5 before ending up on the DL in June and hasn't drawn any interest from any teams as a free agent. In reference to his salary, Philly fans called that one win the "$10 million win".
Score one for Kenny Williams.
