After having to wait 44 years for a breakthrough Grand Final win in 2007, Geelong has won its 2nd Grand Final in 3 years with a gritty 12 point win over St Kilda in front of 99,251 supporters at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Being the favourites, Geelong started well with 3 of the first 4 goals of the match before St Kilda kicked 3 goals before quarter time to take a 2 point advantage into the first break. The Cats then held a 12 point lead towards the end of half-time, before 3 Saints goals (including a somewhat controversial free in the goalsquare) had them up by 6 at the long break.

The Saints led by 7 points heading into the last change, and many had them tipped to win the Grand Final from there. But with wet, heavy conditions, the Saints seemed to struggle to find a target inside 50 in the last quarter, yet it took Geelong 23 minuets into the last quarter to seal the game with a Paul Chapman snap. Max Rooke would then kick a goal after the siren to make the final scores, Geelong 12.8 (80) to St Kilda 9.14 (68).

And how great it was.  It was good to finally see Geelong not be the team in a match struggling to get marks inside the 50.
