The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee (blah, blah) hearing on the Mitchell Report continues to go on, mostly with Bud Selig, and more so, Donald Fehr getting pounded on about their allowing this drug environment to persist.
Earlier this morning, George Mitchell sat before Congress and reiterated much of what he's already stated. Steve Henson of Yahoo!Sports is live-blogging the event and thought Mitchell's comments on McNamee were noteworthy.
What else was he going to say? Mitchell had better publicly state he believes McNamee, otherwise his entire effort loses its credibility. The later portion of the above statement is more noteworthy. Andy Pettitte's willingness to come forward and admit truth to his trainer's statement is likely the most damning evidence thus far against Roger Clemens."Brian McNamee had an overwhelming incentive to tell the truth," Mitchell said. "In his last interview shortly before release of the report, we read to him his testimony verbatim. At the conclusion, we asked if he was completely comfortable with the accuracy and he said he was.
"We believe the statements provided to us were truthful."
Mitchell also said McNamee's credibility was helped by the fact that pitcher Andy Pettitte admitted that McNamee's accusations that he had taken HGH were truthful.
More comments about Selig and Fehr's portion of this meeting later ... if it ever wraps up. FYI, MLBPA's executive director is currently a light shade of red at this writing.
