Mark Richt receives raise, contract extension

After leading Georgia to a 12-2 (7-1 SEC) record and coming just inches away from a BCS National Championship appearance, the front staff has awarded coach Mark Richt with a one-year contract extension and annual raise.

Richt is now scheduled to coach through 2017 and sees his salary bumped from $2.8 million per year to $3.2 million, making him the 11th-highest paid coach in the nation.

"Twelve wins, the manner in which he's done it, it's just something that we felt like we needed to do," athletic director Greg McGarity said Tuesday. "We met yesterday and talked about it and met with Dr. Adams late yesterday afternoon and all left the room happy, so that's where we are now."

Not only did the Bulldogs finish with 12 wins, but they played in the SEC Championship game for a second straight year and ended up No. 4 in the final BCS Rankings after pummeling Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl.

Richt is 118-40 (.747 winning percentage) in 12 seasons as Georgia’s coach.
