Earlier this week an Alabama coach made the comment that Georgia wanted to wear black uniforms during tonight's game because "they're going to a motherf---ing funeral." Strong words indeed, but there may be some real truth to that statement. Even though Alabama is headed to Athens to play tonight, they've looked incredibly impressive this year, just absolutely blowing teams out.
Georgia, meanwhile, seems to keep giving a lot of people out there the impression that they're a paper tiger. The only reason they started off this season No. 1 in the land was because they destroyed Hawaii at the end of last season - but Hawaii shouldn't have even been in that game. And while they did beat Arizona State convincingly, they came thisclose to losing to South Carolina.
Also, when it comes down to it, who do you trust on the sidelines? Nick Saban or Mark Richt? I know who I trust, and it ain't Richt.
That said though, playing in Athens is a monumental task for Saban's young crew. But if they can do it, it'll mark the true revival of Alabama football under Saban.
Either way though, with USC's loss on Thursday and Florida's loss today, this game is a huge opportunity for both of these teams. Whoever wins tonight's game, you could argue, should become the legitimate No. 1 team in the land (although that's much more likely for Georgia should they win).
Right now, 70% of FanIQ is going with Georgia, and despite my better judgment, I think I'll follow suit.
Prediction: Georgia 24, Alabama 21
