Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard claims he hasn’t played with a player better Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan hit-man has struck superb form since returning from his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. Gerrard suggest Suarez will be the key to Liverpool finishing in the top four at the end of the season.

A goalless Suarez was part of the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend. The defeat leaves Liverpool placed third on the Premier League table with 20 points, the same as Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

Suarez is back and in stunning form, but becoming a one-man army seldom guarantees victories. Nonetheless, Gerrard is sure Suarez is the best player to have donned a Liverpool jersey during his career.

“Yes. Simple.  He's out on his own,” Gerrard told ESPN FC. “The only player who comes close to producing what Luis produced in a red shirt is Fernando Torres... but Luis just pipped him for me.”

During the summer transfer window Gerrard admitted he was worried about Suarez leaving Liverpool for Arsenal. Interest in Suarez is bound to bring bids from top notch European clubs, but Gerrard is confident Liverpool will stay with the club.

“I don't feel like that about January... January will be different because I think Luis is committed,” Gerrard added. “I think he is happy. I think he is pleased with the decision he has made to stay around. He is in good form. The team is playing well so I think January won't be a problem. But come the summer, I think depending how Liverpool have done will determine what goes through Luis' mind.”

Liverpool are in contention for the Premier League title following a brilliant start to the season. Gerrard insists it is Gerrard will be the key to Liverpool’s success this season. Martino said: “He is the key. His goals, his performance and his form will be the key whether we finish in the top four or not.”
