So, we set off on our journey on Friday Feb 16. Daysi had class that day so we didn't hit the road till about 4 pm. Unfortunately it took us about 2 hours to travel 30 miles due to Atlanta traffic. We were in such high spirits though, and had equipped ourselves with enough cd's to DJ a wedding, we didn't mind the stop and go traffic. Or maybe time has just softened my memory of this part. We discovered we both had a similar strange tendency to sing along with the musical instruments in a song more than even the words and with as much excitement as we had it's probably good that we weren't running on full speed. Our chariot for the weekend was my car- her name is Roxie. She is a 2 door hatchback, a Ford Focus, stick shift. Periodically as we drove along one or the other of us would spontaneously yell out "We're going to DAYTONAAAAAAAAAAA!" at the top of our lungs.
We met up with David just outside of Gainesville. He had cleared it with his cousin's mother-in-law for us to crash at her place for the night. I doubt that I could return to the house, and it's probably good. We got there at almost midnight, still giddy, but tired. We pulled up to this house and about 100 dogs (ok, maybe there were 6) came to greet us, all barking ferociously but with tails wagging. We went inside feeling guilty that we had disrupted this household of strangers at such a late hour and were shown to a back bedroom. Inside the house there were cats everywhere. I never got a final count. There was also a VERY pregnant wiener dog and her babies' daddy. David left us there (what? you're leaving?!) and said he was going to sleep at his cousin's house which was just through the woods. "There's no cell reception out here. Set your alarm for 8." And then he was gone. Daysi and I were so tired we went to sleep almost immediately- or tried to. There were a couple cats who resented our intrusion into what was clearly "their" room as evidenced by the cat poo and some cat throw up on the carpet. We slept on top of the blankets with our shoes on and were joined by the pregnant dog and Daddy Dog which was actually great because we were freezing. I got a case of the giggles at the situation and said "Man!! I get to sleep with 2
b!tches!"
By the light of day, the house was a little less....weird although I did a quick assessment of the bathtub and decided showers would NOT be taken here. David showed up promptly at 8 and we went to McDonald's with his cousins 2 girls and then we put his stuff into my car and continued on our pilgramage. Time to go watch us a race!!
