Giants website says they're Super Bowl XLVI champions

The Giants might be getting just a bit cocky before Super Bowl XLVI

The above image is from the New York Giants website. You can click here to check it out... unless they change it at some point, when they realize the game hasn't happened yet.

A lot of fuss was made when Tom Brady said that he hoped the Patriots would have a bigger crowd in 2 weeks, when he addressed fans following the Patriots' win over the Ravens in the AFC Championship game. But this... this is a whole different story.

This isn't one guy making a slightly ambiguous statement about what he HOPES to see. This is the New York Giants promoting Twitter and Facebook badges to celebrate a championship they haven't yet actually won.

Could it get any clearer, with the words "The Giants are Super Bowl Champions!" sprawled across the top of the page?

Better slow your role a little bit, Giants. So much for avoiding bulletin board material for the Patriots locker room.

UPDATE: As of 12:15 p.m. EST, it has been taken down. Looks like they figured it out.

this is THE dumbest conversation ever.....I guess none of you weak pats fans think your team has enough motivation to get it done with out bulletin material.

i guess you dont think they want it bad enough already.

And none of the Cubs players or coaches had anything to do with Steve Bartman either, yet he affected the game.

Just because the Web Producer screwed up doesn't mean it won't be a factor. It wasn't a player or coach who mistakenly released the Eagles parade route in 2005 either, yet Belichick used that to motivate his team.

No one said this was a player or coach. Cocky might be a misnomer but the bottom line is that it could have an impact on the Pats, like in 2005.

I've been a web producer at the NBA.com and I guarantee you the giants.com website has a content management system that includes a test area. Then, when it gets pushed to live, there is a preview option that should always get used before accepting the change. Heck, even this comment I am making now on this blog has a preview so I can make sure of what I am doing.

The only thing 3rd grade was the person who greenlit this, and it was probably just a mistake (that lasted an hour!), or possibly intentional to show his friends momentarily as a joke, or something along those lines.

Yes, the Pats have their image ready, just like they have their parade route ready, but neither of them will see the light of day, like when the Eagles mistakenly releasing their parade route in 2005 and Belichick showed it to the team on a projector the night before the SB to motivate them. Did they intentionally release the route? No. Did the Giants intentionally put up the image? Probably not. But remember, sports is about mistakes and the other team capitalizing on them, usually on the field. But oftentimes, in big games, it can come from mistakes made off the field, by non-players. Do you think the Cubs wanted Steve Bartman to grab that ball from Moises Alou?

Rationalize all you want about how this wasn't the coach or players or on the field -- Belichick will make it a factor and if they point to this as the motivation that put them over the top, the giants.com Web Producer could possibly be an anonymous Bartman.

Remember the unicorns on ESPN.com? Not a tech mistake, but still. Good times.

There was one during a Daytona 500 I remember - a "winner" was posted while there were still 25 or so laps to go.  It accidentally went live for all of about a minute.

I know how websites work behind the scenes. I will guarantee you that none of the players or coaches have anything to do with what goes up live on the team site. This has nothing to do with the Giants being "cocky".

And I don't want your bridge. Thanks though.

I will take the bridge, but I only have a small amount left in my "buy things from complete morons" category.  how much?

Yeah, right.  A team and organization that is running its mouth all week "accidentally" puts a post like this up the day before the Super Bowl.

I live in New York City.  If you believe that, I've got a great bridge connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn to sell you.  The deed is mine...in fact I just printed it up by "mistake" this afternoon.  The offer is only good for one more hour though, so you'd better hurry.

mejjker, can I hire your team of writers?

that joke is pathetic and more over used that any chic that would touch the OP of this thread

running their mouths all week?  the press is in their face.  nobody is afraid of pretty boy brady, are they supposed run around scared of a team that won its first playoff game in 4 years against 2 awful qbs at home?

and to reference a NY newspaper that makes jokes everyday of the year, that crap has nothing to do with the organization, an organization that has more class than the entire city of boston combined.

I was just going to say - this is probably less of a matter of the Giants being cocky (I'm not saying they're not, I'm just saying that I don't think this is a great example) and more of a matter of a mistake on the part of the site technicians. They should have a testing platform to work from and this should never have gone live, but I think it was probably just a mistake that it did. I'm sure both teams have their sites ready to go live "just in case", just like both teams have their Super Bowl Champs gear all printed up and ready to order as soon as the game is over.

I can only imagine that this screen shot and the front page of the New York Post from Thursday with a picture of Tom Brady and the caption "Not a Prayer" are both now prominently displayed in the Patriots Locker Room.

This nonsense will all end tomorrow when the Patriots blow the Giants out of Indianapolis.

Yeah, right.  I think there was a "3rd grade post" in this thread and it is yours, not the OP.

The Giants are running their mouths, yet the Pats got all the swagger.  I hope NE blows them out
