The new American Gladiators debuted last night and the reviews are not good. Awful Announcing has the most glowing review and calls the show "a new level of awful."
There was a least one highlight -- Crush. Well, her and Hellga who I think is a man.
Crush, better known to MMA fans as Gina Carano takes home top female Gladiator honors by a landslide. On 205th already proclaims she's his next wife, but he's going to have some competition.
I didn't think it was all that bad, either, but I spent the entire day at the bar watching football so my opinion may have been slightly ... uh, skewed.
It wasn't that bad, unless you consider the original bad. The show was always kinda cheesy and melodramatic. This is no different, except for better lighting and camera work.
I agree totally, Claire--now that Jason's put out that "theory" about Hellga, I'm morbidly curious; I might have to investigate, and watch the show further!!

I may just have simple tastes but I enjoyed it. Yes, the announcing wasn't the greatest in the world and both the contestants and the male gladiators were overly corny with their smack talk, but I thought the action was pretty decent. The one new event "Hit and Run" was a bit corny but what you gonna do.
I was happy to see that you could differentiate between the male and female gladiators. I find females on steroids highly disturbing (however I do think that Helga might be whinnying off camera).

Glad to see wiser opinions prevail. You wouldn't know it looking at last night's thread.
I didn't entirely hate it, though it was bad... I'll probably watch if there is nothing better on. But it's definitely not the show I loved as a kid. Hell, I remember going to see the live tour at Veterans Memorial Coliseum when it came to town.

I was in my early 20's the first time around, and I didn't think much of it then. My feeling was reaffirmed last night.
