It's not going to happen, but if there was ever an opportunity for a strictly defensive player to win the award, this is the year.
The Heisman Trophy is generally awarded to the most statistically impressive offensive player on one of the nation's most highly ranked teams at the end of the regular season. Well LSU is the clear cut #1 and Glenn Dorsey is the best player on the field every time the Tigers line up. Playing defensive tackle, Dorsey isn't racking up the impressive statistics that the only defensive winner Charles Woodson did, but there's little doubt he affects the outcome any less. If only double and triple teams were tracked as often as rushing yards. Ask Les Miles which player has most affected the outcome of their games and I guarantee the answer is Glenn. Ask an opposing offensive coordinator which player he game plans around the most, the answer is Glenn.
Until the Trophy changes its description to the most outstanding 'offensive' player in college football, my vote goes to Glenn Dorsey at this halfway point. I'm on the defensive player for Heisman bandwagon. Who's coming with me?
