Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement-US PRESSWIREMichigan State football kicks off their 2012 season tonight against 24th ranked Boise State. Go Green! Go White! The 13th ranked Spartans are bringing a 29-6 home record with them tonight since Coach Mark Dantonio has taken over the Michigan State football program.

Andrew Maxwell steps into Kirk Cousins big shoes at quarterback-hopefully learning enough in Cousins shadow for the last few years to get it done this season for the Spartans. I am nervous for Maxwell-Cousins was THE MAN the last few years. Quarterback, team leader, would step up and make plays when it counted all season long. You could never count these Spartans out with Cousins at the helm. Maxwell brings a different skill set to the table but I believe in Coach Dantonio-and know that he has prepared Maxwell well.

Choosing to play Boise State, ranked 22 or 24 depending upon which preseason poll you read, is a bold move for Michigan State Football. Following in the steps of Coach Izzo, Michigan State basketball coach, get good competition early, learn what needs to be worked on to grow and develop the team. A concept that has had incredible success for Michigan State basketball through the years, and hope to see a similar pattern this season in football.

Michigan State had so many close, exciting, nail biting games last season. Part of me wishes for the same excitement, yet the other part of me hopes for a few easier wins and earlier leads. Either way, I can't wait for the season to begin.

Let's Go State!
