A week and a half after Kelly Tilghman brought unfortunate attention to the PGA Tour for her "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley" remarks, Golfweek magazine couldn't put the issue to rest. In fact, they through more fire on an issue that was nearly burnt out with a swinging noose on this week's cover. Magazine editor Dave Seanor defends the cover choice:
"Was it an arresting image? Yes, it was. We chose it because it was an image we thought would draw attention to an issue we thought deserved some intelligent dialogue."PGA Commish Tim Finchem is not pleased.
"Clearly, what Kelly said was inappropriate and unfortunate, and she obviously regrets her choice of words. But we consider Golfweek's imagery of a swinging noose on its cover to be outrageous and irresponsible. It smacks of tabloid journalism. It was a naked attempt to inflame and keep alive an incident that was heading to an appropriate conclusion."It'd be hypocritical of me to criticize Golfweek for using shock value to generate sales, but a week and a half after the incident to an issue that was bad for golf this cover is in poor taste.
Time to heed Tiger Woods' advice -- it's a non-issue (now -- it wasn't then), lets let it go.
