Grading the College Football Experts Week 7

10/16/06 in NCAAF   |   CriticalFanatic   |   respect

Experts AND fans should be held accountable for their predictions.  We'll be entering all the expert picks each week and comparing them with the FanIQ consensus to determine the real experts. In order to properly grade the experts, we evaluate in two categories - picking straight up winners and versus the spread.

Picking Winners - Week 7

FanIQ Consensus
(26-10) had 72% accuracy this week, and now up to 82% overall for this season. The most difficult game of the week to predict was obviously Vanderbilt over Georgia. Not a single fan or expert picked the Commodores. Other difficult games were Indiana (1%) over Iowa, Colorado (6%) over Texas Tech, and Oregon State (2%) over Washington. (percentage picked in parenthesis)

Real Experts
- NFL Fantasy freak Brandon Funston (17-2, YahooSports, pictured) also knows his college football. Missing the same two games as nearly everyone else, Funston tops the expert standings for the first time this season. Regular dunce Steve Greenberg (12-3, Sporting News) also deserves top billing

Dunces - Kirk Herbstreit (3-3, ESPN, pictured) and Lee Corso (4-3, ESPN) returned to Earth this week. Of those picking the Top 25, Johnny Rosenstein (15-6, Sportsline) missed on all the marquee games. Amongst the group picking all games, John Harris (24-11, CFN) had the worst accuracy. Congrats to the Sporting News trio for not being here.

Against the Spread - Week 7

FanIQ Consensus
(16-17-1) was under .500 for the second straight week. The experts (12-12) also struggled with just a handful in the green. The most difficult winners to pick with the odds: Vanderbilt (+13.5), Ohio (+6.5), and Oklahoma (-19.5).

Real Experts - Perpetually atop this list, Rivals.com David Fox (8-3) had another impressive week. Matt Hayes (8-5-1, Sporting News, pictured) stood up to the challenge of a tough week and had one of the top winning percentages.

Dunces - Stewie! Ouch. I enjoy his writing and opinions, but should I even be inclined to place a wager I'd rather take my mom's advice this season. Sports Illustrated's Steward Mandel (1-6, pictured) was not only the worst expert this week, but at the bottom for the season (16-21).

There were some establishments with great history and traditions which are followed from year to year, from generation to generation. But there are still some educational establishments where gender segregation is accepted. Generally we like this overview. It was helpful and we can even bookmark it as an example of good dissertation writing by papersmart. We are all satisfied with its contents.
