Greg Oden Takes His Talents to South Beach
Greg Oden has finally made his decision. The big man is set to join the Miami Heat on a two-year deal. Despite, the fact that the former number one pick hasn’t played a single NBA game since 2009, Oden was probably the most intriguing player left on the market. When healthy, Oden can be one of the most dominant big men in the game, but that has always been his achilles heal, his health.
"When I had a conversation with Coach (Erik) Spoelstra and hearing how much he knew about the training stuff that I was already doing, it kind of made me feel like they know what's best for me," Oden said in a phone interview.
As far as the state of his current health, Oden said, “I'm not going to sit here and say I'm 100 percent. I am moving (well) and I am feeling good, but I have a lot of work to do."
The last time Oden played, he averaged 11ppg, 8.5 rpg, and 2.3 rpg. If Oden can bring those same type of numbers to South Beach this upcoming year, the Miami Heat will not only have their first three-peat, but maybe a four, five, or six-peat. Perhaps, LeBron wasn’t so wrong after all when he first prophesied that he would bring multiple championships to Miami.
As far as Oden moving to a very big stage in Miami, Oden said, “They are in the spotlight, what can I say? But for them to come after me with all the stuff I've been going through -- for them to think I can still be an important piece of their team -- I'm really excited about that. The scrutiny ... that's going to be there with any team I signed with. I just want to play."
