Greg Oden to Select Between Pelicans and Heat

The 'highly anticipated' return of the former #1 overall pick in the 2007 draft is inching closer and closer. Today, it was revealed that Greg Oden intends to decide between both the Miami Heat and the New Orleans Pelicans.

On the one hand, he could sign with Miami and know that he has an opportunity to compete for an NBA title from day 1. However, signing with the Heat comes with increased pressures from both the media and internal pressures to compete at the highest level. Coming back from multiple knee surgeries is enough pressure on its own. He already has a tall mountain to climb, why make it harder on yourself?

They are young and trying to improve every day with a core of Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon Tyreke Evans and Anthony Davis. Pairing with Davis might make his job a little easier as well as alleviate some of the pressures with returning to a high profile team - as the Pelicans are nowhere near the story that the Heat will be.

Oden has a tough choice to make either way. If he can mentally prepare himself for the pressures of playing on a team fresh off back-to-back titles, then the logical choice would be Miami - he has an incredible opportunity to win there unlike any other team in the league. He will be guided by superstar talents in LeBron James and Dwyane Wade on a daily basis who would certainly have his back when the media attempts to brew a story on Oden's failed past. But if that sounds like a tough situation, the Pelicans would be a great spot for the 7 footer.
