In his first game in Angels red, former Royal and Brewer Zach Greinke put together a solid outing, but his new team couldn’t provide the offense to support him. Greinke went 7 innings, allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs, striking out 8. Hellickson and the Rays bullpen, however, gave up only 4 hits in a 2-0 shutout in Anaheim. The Angels were shutout for the 11th time this season and second time in as many days.
They had a chance to tie things up in the ninth as Pujols came up to the plate with two men on and one out, but a groundball double play sealed the Rays 2-1 series victory.
The Angels were without super-rookie Mike Trout, who missed the game due to a sore knee. The lack of offense in his absence could help forward his MVP bid, but the Angels will need a healthy Trout come tomorrow as they open up a 10-game road trip with a 4-game series in Arlington against the AL West-leading Rangers.
