Rudy Gay cruising to the Raptors, Calderon to Pistons, Tayshaun to Grizz
Nothing against the Wayne Ellington and Marreese Speights for Jon Leuer trade, but the Rudy Gay trade is the first of the red-hot trade rumors to materialize into an actual deal. Expect additional red-hot rumors involving Paul Pierce, Josh Smith, and any Laker not named Kobe before the February 21 NBA trade deadline.
The Rudy Gay to Toronto trade materialized at about 6 p.m. ET Wednesday evening, and it looks like Ken Berger of CBS Sports had it first. Pistons forward Austin Daye also goes along with Tayshaun Prince to Memphis, while the Grizzlies' backup center Hamed Haddadi was thrown in to the deal with Rudy Gay. The Raptors are expected to just buy Haddadi out.
Calderon was an attractive option to the Pistons -- but not for his in-your-face, button-pushing style of super frustrating defense. Calderon was attractive to the Pistons because he is an expiring contract. Mmmmmm, expiring contracts....
But star power in this trade is Rudy Gay, a talented swingman who gives you 17.2 points a night on average. He probably gives you even more a night on a Raptors team where most guys are either terrible or injured. Gay is in his prime at 26 years old,
As for the Grizzlies, the perception is they're just dumping salary and their moves are dictated primarily by desire to avoid the luxury tax.
