Guardiola hails Ribery and Robben for outstanding form for Bayern
Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola showered praise upon his star players Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. Guardiola, who was speaking to reporters at the Bayern Munich’s winter training camp in Qatar, hailed the wingers for their brilliant contributions to the team.
Ribery and Robben have been in phenomenal form for Bayern Munich over the past year. Ribery, who recently won the poll for Bundesliga for being the best player in Bundesliga during the first half of the season, is in line for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award.
The France international is hot-favorite to win the coveted award in a ceremony in Zurich, although he stands alongside Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for the award.
“I have never seen such a player on this level with such a character, how he fights for his team. It is an honour for me to be his coach,” Guardiola said.
Guardiola revealed that he had already talked to Ribery about his leave from the training camp for the Ballon d’Or ceremony and backed the winger to win title, which is being lifted by Messi for the past four years.
“He should go there with a big smile and just relish it. It is not easy to achieve something like that. He should indulge in the moment,” Guardiola said. “Those three players are incredible. I am glad I don't have to decide [which one wins].”
Guardiola also praised Robben for his performance during the first half of the season. The Dutch winger is currently recovering from a knee injury, which he picked up in early January.
“I'm in love with Arjen,” Guardiola said in English. “In the whole of my career as player and coach, I've maybe seen one or two players who are as professional as Arjen. He has an unbelievable mentality.
“He was playing unbelievably well before his injury. I hope he makes a comeback as soon as possible and maintains his superb form.”
Bayern Munich are hot favorites to win the Bundesliga title. They have already amassed a big lead in the league, which is why they will be concentrating on winning the Champions League title this year.
Bayern Munich, who are the defending champions of the Champions League, will become the first team in history to successfully defend their crown if they manage to win the tournament this year.
