The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Hanley Ramirez until next week.
The shortstop’s left hamstring flared up in Thursday’s game and when they looked closer, they found a different problem. It was actually an irritated nerve in his back.
Ramirez received a cortisone injection and will likely be out until next week.
Mattingly talked about Ramirez’s injury progressions throughout the night:
"What Hanley was telling us [Thursday] night isn't something we haven't been hearing. As the game went on he got tightness, so it was like, 'OK, we're not going to keep doing this.' Hanley was feeling OK about everything. He didn't think anything was going on. We just wanted to be sure."
The Dodgers have a 12 ½ game lead in the NL West, so Mattingly wasn’t too concerned with sitting Ramirez.
Nick Punto will take his place until he returns to the lineup.
